President McFadden Speaks Out on Public Property

On Tuesday, Until We're home President Michael McFadden asked, "When does a building become more important financially than it is to people's lives," at the People's Property Campaign Rally organized by Empower DC.

 THANK YOU!

As many of you are aware, members of Until We're Home have been lobbying the Mayor and DHS to install air conditioning at Franklin Shelter since July 30th of last year, when a resident, Corbin Newcomb III, died during a heat wave that brought temperatures in the shelter above 110 degrees.

On July 23rd we planned to hold a demonstration to show our frustration with the city's failure to act in the ensuing 11 and 3/4 months, but what was to be a protest quickly turned into a celebration.  The city had worked all weekend to install equipment, and Monday morning chillers were up and running at Franklin.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible through your concern and action.  Special thanks to Chet Grey and Rich Bradley of the Downtown DC BID, and to all those who came out today to support us in front of the Wilson Building.

Thanks to all the churches and individuals who came to Franklin Shelter to get a first hand look at what has been accomplished and how much still needs to be done.  If your church would like to learn more aboud DC shelters and their needs, please contact us at info@untilwerehome.org.
